Canandaigua, New York, is located only 25 miles southeast of Rochester and is known as “The Chosen Spot.” The town’s motto is a Native American translation that is still accurate today. Canandaigua is a historic and charming town. It has a variety of stores, galleries, restaurants, and lodging options. This is a peaceful small-town paradise.

The town of Canandaigua was a Seneca village populated by inhabitants who fled the nearby Seneca village of Ganondagan. Today, the city of Canandaigua is best known for its tourism assets, thriving downtown business district, and beautiful residential neighborhoods.

Nestled in the foothills of the Finger Lakes, Canandaigua has eleven lakes. Seven of them are home to wineries, making the area perhaps the best for producing wines in the United States. The region is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, with its roaring waterfalls, deep gorges, and more than 16,000 acres of forest land.

Along Canandaigua Lake, there is the Wine Trail with award-winning wineries, fantastic restaurants, gourmet food stores, and picnic areas. Some wineries are big; others are smaller and cozier, and a select few also serve beer or cider. The trail’s short length of 30 miles makes it ideal to complete in a single day and offers something for everyone to discover.

The Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award has twice been given to the Canandaigua City School District. The chefs in the area are some of the best in the nation, and they frequently include locally grown food on their menus.

The town is home to two major healthcare facilities, the Canandaigua VA Medical Center and F.F. Thompson Hospital, as well as many small retail and service businesses. There are many tourist attractions. We at the RPP Sold Team have picked our top favorite places to visit in Canandaigua. Make sure you check them next time you’re in town!
